The primary role of the Lead Business Analyst (Lead BA) is to ensure that business processes and supporting systems continue to meet business project stakeholder needs. The Lead BA provides leadership across the organisation on BA techniques, ensuring standards are defined, and best practise is adopted.

This position is a key liaison between the technical IT colleagues that implement business process management technology (BPMT) – based solutions and the line-of-business that performs the process work (manually or in conjunction with automated systems). The Lead BA must be able to straddle the IT and business domains and communicate (or broker communications) between each side for complex business issues.

Key Outputs

  • Lead innovative systems thinking for MIB, identifying solutions to drive excellence
  • Lead the BA practice within MIB, ensuring that appropriate standards and techniques are adopted and introducing continuous improvement to these in line with industry thinking
  • Understand and demonstrate through models how the business processes support business and strategies and objectives
  • Via models, demonstrate the opportunities for business process improvement to the process owner and other key project stakeholders
  • Suggest process flow, personnel resource, policy, goal and rule changes along with metrics to measure the impact of those changes
  • Work within guidelines driven from enterprise architecture by the business process architect when determining the current \”as is\” state of a business process, and update current-state business process documentation as needed
  • Understand at a high level how implemented applications support business processes under consideration for change
  • Contribute to the definition, development, implementation and maintenance of the business process improvement methodology to be employed
  • To work with project teams in either agile or waterfall delivery methodologies
  • To produce agreed project deliverables and work products documented to industry standard, for example business requirements, requirements elaborations
  • To lead the delivery of the BA elements of agile methodologies
  • To support Product and Process owners with innovative solutions, documentation of processes including controls to MIB standards
  • To deliver process development and improvement across MIB
  • Define, document and agree business processes at all levels
  • Develop systems specifications and other work products
  • Participate in evaluation of packaged solutions
  • Assist in production of user material to support systems

Qualifications and Education

Skills and Knowledge

Desirable qualifications/ technical knowledge:

  • Formal qualifications in Business Analysis
  • Working towards or have a project management certification for e.g. APMG, PRINCE2, IIBA or BSC
  • Knowledge or understanding of project methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile
  • Experience of leading BA delivery on complex projects or programmes (>£1m)

Experience

  • Proven experience in an agile and waterfall delivery environment
  • Intermediate level experience in all or some of the following: Scrum, Kanban, Time Boxing , Adaptive planning, Burn Down Lists
  • Intermediate level experience of Customer Journey and Value Mapping, Use Cases, Storyboarding, Sprint Design, Sprint Management, Retrospectives
  • Evidenced examples and mindset supporting strategic thinking and innovation, in line with organisational strategy
  • Background in root cause, bottleneck, impact and other process (not systems) analysis methods
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, including great presentations
  • Able to facilitate small groups in workshop settings
  • Ability to work within high-performing virtual teams and highly collaborative
  • Builds excellent relationships with key internal and external customers based on trust and confidence
  • Interested in both short-term results and long-term goals
  • Possesses strong intellectual integrity
  • Awareness of industry standard development lifecycles
  • Has operated as a BA in complex insurance or equivalent organisations
  • Has operated both as part of wider teams and as a lone BA
  • Business case, business requirements and requirements elaboration experience
  • Proven ability to operate successfully across varied business functions

Approach

  • Demonstrable evidence of conceptual thinking
  • Can evidence visual and design thinking together with UX design
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills – written and oral
  • Proven ability to deal with outside suppliers and represent MIB in a professional manner

Salary £64,000 per annum Grade 12 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday)IT kit supplied to you£320 (before tax) start up allowanceHybrid working (2 days in the office per week) from our Milton Keynes office, MK14
