Job Description:

  • In-depth understanding of UK Laws, Rules, and Regulations concerning Financial Crime.
  • Experience in shaping Financial Crime Policies & Standards for large, complex organizations.
  • Broad experience across AML, Sanctions, ABC, and ATEF.
  • Experience in pragmatic, risk-based financial crime risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proficient stakeholder management skills.

Purpose of the role

To develop, implement, and maintain Risk policies and standards across various business lines and risk types, collaborating with Senior Management to develop and execute risk management practices that support the Bank’s strategic objectives.

Accountabilities

  • Develop policies, standards, and guidance by soliciting feedback from stakeholders to meet regulatory requirements, ensure framework integrity, and maintain practicality for implementation.
  • Manage the Annual Refresh cycle for Frameworks, Policies, and Standards, analyzing emerging risks and regulatory changes to update policies within set timeframes.
  • Conduct impact assessments to ensure policies can be implemented timely, investigating and addressing policy violations or issues, including dispensation, waivers, and breaches.
  • Implement and execute the Barclays Control Framework aligned with Risk Policies, engaging with the Chief Controls Office and monitoring adherence.
  • Manage key stakeholders through transformation projects, ad-hoc requests, dialogue, training, and education.
  • Maintain Framework components to ensure clear lineage from Laws, Rules, and Regulations through policies, standards, and controls, including periodic Control Assessments.
  • Maintain a centralized repository of all risk policies and standards.
  • Implement control lineage processes, approving controls mapped to control requirements within policies and standards.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, and influencing policies and procedures.
  • Lead a large team or sub-function, embedding a performance culture, or lead organization-wide projects as a technical expert and thought leader, training and coaching less experienced staff.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and committees, influencing decisions beyond their own function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for significant sub-functions.
  • Escalate policy breaches appropriately, ensuring compliance and regulatory adherence.
  • Monitor and influence external environment, regulators, and advocacy groups on behalf of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of industry practices and external developments.
  • Use advanced analytical and interpretative skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make significant strategic decisions within their area, negotiating and influencing stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Act as principal contact for key clients and functions, and serve as a spokesperson for the division.
