Summary

This is a significant leadership role within the Met’s communication and engagement team. You will oversee two closely aligned teams delivering all our corporate internal communications, workforce engagement and frontline-focused campaigns.

Our organisation is made up of more than 40,000 passionate and dedicated officers and staff working across the city 24/7. The fast pace of the Met means the comms team is often driven by live events, which makes this an exciting and rewarding position with the opportunity to operate strategically but also work on evolving and high-profile issues.

The jobs our people do are as varied as the communities we protect. You will be working at the very heart of this and will bring passion, curiosity and creativity to how we build morale, change behaviours and cultures and deliver better policing across the Met.

We’re looking for a strong and dynamic leader who is used to operating in fast-paced and complex environments and can hit the ground running. It doesn’t matter if you’ve built your career in press and media or specialised in internal corporate communications – we’re more interested in the right person with the right skills than previous job titles.

The Met’s relationship with London and our officers and staff has never been more important, so the right candidate is someone who can continually challenge the status quo while inspiring and developing more junior leaders and colleagues to thrive in our fast-paced environment.

You’ll need the ability to advise and challenge the Met’s most senior stakeholders, cut through the daily noise and lead your teams in gripping the most crucial work.

You’ll have the skills to build a strategic approach to internal engagement and culture change but also never hesitate to roll your sleeves up and tackle challenging emerging issues that can quickly and severely damage internal morale and trust. Given our public profile, a strong understanding of and interest in current affairs is crucial.

This role will oversee three vital elements of our mission:

  • Ensuring our diverse and complex workforce understands our organisational priorities, are equipped with the information and tools they need and continue to feel confidence and trust in our senior leaders.
  • Driving the creation of innovative new internal campaigns steeped in insight and data to support widespread culture and behaviour change, increased performance while rebuilding morale and pride in our service.
  • Overseeing the management of the Metropolitan Police Service brand and development of a sophisticated in-house design service, equipping our wider team and workforce with the corporate branding and collateral required to deliver the best possible service to London.
