Job summary
Applications are invited for a full-time Locum Consultant post in Respiratory Medicine. The successful candidate will join a team of 18 consultants at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Our team provides general and specialist in-patient and out-patient services including:
- a specialist sleep service caring for sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders (5000 patients on CPAP)
- a home ventilation service (350 patients on home ventilation)
- a dedicated 14-bed Acute Respiratory Care unit for patients requiring acute NIV, CPAP, HFNO, etc.
- a large lung cancer service with thoracoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (about 500 new cancers pa)
- a comprehensive lung cancer multidisciplinary meeting with close links to thoracic surgery
- a nationally recognized asthma service
- specialist services for interstitial lung disease and tuberculosis
Main duties will be primarily based at Pinderfields Hospital, but all staff are involved in delivering care across all sites, including Dewsbury and Pontefract Hospitals. Responsibilities include outpatient clinics (general and specialist), inpatient respiratory work, and on-call duties.

- Urgent and Emergency Care duties, including out-of-hours on-call, scheduled to ensure safe working hours
On-call duties are shared with 16 colleagues on a respiratory rota, assessed as 1 PA for ward rounds and evening work. Commitments include weekday evenings (3 hours), weekends (7 hours), and overnight (1 in 16 days), categorized as A intensity. Time off in lieu will be arranged.
Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) are included, with at least 1.5 SPA in the core 10 PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be allocated based on skills and service needs, including teaching and leadership roles. The department encourages research and service development interests.
In 2021/22, respiratory medicine cared for 5,491 new outpatients and 8,954 follow-up patients.
