Supplier Quality Engineer Location: Cumbria Salary: Competitive Salary + Bonus Scheme Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Work Arrangement: On-site with flexible/hybrid options About the Role We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our central quality function. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will play a key role in driving continuous improvement in business systems and production processes. Your primary focus will be investigating customer returns, analysing root causes, and identifying company-wide opportunities for quality enhancement. - Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders to manage and resolve supplier quality issues.
- Initiate and oversee Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), ensuring effective resolution through root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys).
- Lead and coordinate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities to drive quality improvements.
- Manage and support value stream activities, including:
- Non-conformance investigations
- Material Review Board (MRB) meetings
- Internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality standards
- Review, completion, and verification of First Article Inspection (FAI) reports
- Conduct failure analysis on returned products and contribute to accurate 8D reporting.
- Analyse internal production process failures and work closely with production teams to implement corrective actions.
What We’re Looking For Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- NC/BTEC in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering (or relevant experience in a quality-focused role).
- Experience working in an ISO9001 environment with a strong understanding of AS9100.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed technical drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general IT literacy.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience using electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters) is an advantage.
- Qualified Internal Auditor certification preferred.
- Familiarity with SharePoint and ERP systems such as IFS is beneficial.
- Previous experience in inspection within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
